It’s that time of year again ladies where our favourite celebs are donning all the top trends of the season on the red carpet. It’s no doubt they are under the spotlight and what the style icons choose to wear will be under scrutiny from head to toe. From IFTA’s to the Oscars we hone in on all the ‘do’s’ and focus also on the ‘never do’. Spring has officially sprung so we would have liked to see all the hottest colours on the carpet but we felt the best dressed were the more subtle tones.

We want to cover a few important things for you to remember,
1) stick to colours that suit your skin tone or that don’t require major tanning and
2) be sure to add a little frosting to your outfit, this can really get you noticed in a line up.
Let’s take a look at the IFTA’s and we have to mention Anna Daly’s outfit as it’s one of our own dresses, so therefore we know it is accessible fashion and yes ladies you can pull this one off easily!
Anna is wearing a full length white goddess dress by Mimifroufrou; the embroidery and sequins on the shoulder straps and under the bust only adds to the elegance of this floaty fabulous number. This is available in a rainbow of colours at Neola.ie and is great for a Debs, a ball or the races. If you are a bride to be and looking for something simple but elegant and affordable then this may be the one for you. The best part is the price at only €250, which is great for a designer dress of such quality. You can’t go wrong. At Neola.ie we go one step further and take notes of the event you are attending and we can keep details of the dress so that nobody can buy the same one from us and wear it to the same event. A plus for online fashion because there is nothing more cringe-worthy than to find yourself side by side to someone wearing the same dress at a big event!
The Oscars were a real rollercoaster for the fashion followers they went up to really good and hit rock bottom to the point where we can officially say ‘Scarlet for them’. We loved the sheer show stoppers and designer Ellie Saab worn by Mila Kunis, black Swan actress gets our vote on her gown with the sheer lace detail. The cheeky neckline leaves little to the imagination, yet she can’t be accused of baring all! The powder grey is also very complimentary to her skin tone, which is something many of us get wrong. We go for dresses that suit a darker complexion and then get spray on tango and just end up looking ridiculous. So ladies a top tip is don’t go for a dress that will suit a skin tone too far off your own, get one that requires a slight spray with a nice tan that gives more of a glow than a glare if you follow my drift? This dress takes a killer figure and pure confidence to wear, but who’s to say most of us don’t have that? If you’re not that brave you can always go for something similar but with more coverage.

Below is the way not to wear sheer and lace. Melissa Leo really got it wrong and ended up looking like a lace table cloth more than anything else. The shape and fit were all wrong and didn’t do her figure one bit of justice. The front slit was all wrong, in the wrong place and not nearly long enough to be classed as cheeky or sexy. It looks stiff and she looks uncomfortable in it. You want to look good when you’re moving as well as standing still and this dress didn’t look good either way. We have to say sorry Marc Bouwer but you got it wrong.

Our next favourite would be Halle Berry, she went glitzy nude and we loved it! I honestly think this woman knows how to dress, she rarely gets it wrong but let’s face it, with that body, it’s hard not to get it right. Again her dress is one that really matches her skin tone and shows off her curves. With her bone structure and shape she can wear strapless really well; it’s as if the strapless dress was invented just for her. This style is something you can get away with if you’re not too top heavy. The emphasis is on the skirt and hem with all the layers of netting and a big bust would only take away from the look and let’s be honest it would draw the eye to the chest as opposed to the other fabulous detail on the dress. The sparkling dresses are the way forward this season also, plenty of sequins or diamante detail will get you noticed as certainly the big style winners on the red carpet this time round were the ones with a good deal of glitz. Halle really has some added frosting on this number by Marchesa.

Hillary Swank looks stunning in Gucci and again we see the strapless, fitted and frosting to top it all off. She is feathered and fabulous and looks as elegant as a swan in this dress. The train adds length, not that she needs it, but it’s something a few of us non model height women could take note of for future reference.
Next up we have short and sweet but without skimping on sexy, Taylor Swift has also topped our polls on ‘getting it right’. I know I’m repeating myself about this frosting business but I’m just reinforcing the point about how a bit of bling can make you stand out from the crowd, especially when the pictures come out and are stuck on a social media forum by a friend for everyone to see! Then I’ll bet you wish you went with a bit of bling to avoid blending in with the rest.

I’ve decided to show how short and sweet can quickly change to short and sensationally dire. Ok so maybe that’s a bit much but I can say the same for the dress. The biggest problem with it is that there is a bit much going on with it. Any fashionista can tell you that more often than not ‘less is more’ which is something Emma Stone chose to ignore and well quite frankly she chose wrong. The shape of the dress is painful, considering she could really show off her figure. If she’s not 3 months pregnant then it sure looks that way, and that’s not something anyone wants to hear on a night out. ‘Hey nice dress, so how far are you gone?’ not a question that will go down too well with someone who’s not expecting but just made a bad fashion choice. The fact is she’s quite pretty with a petite frame and could certainly have donned a winner on the red carpet.

Finally one for the reds, for all those who love the fact that Orange, Coral and reds are big this season, Anne Hathaway covered that angle with an amazing red carpet dress. It’s another strapless which is a sure sign that one shouldered is fading fast and Anne definitely can do strapless. The dress is by Valentino and all I can say is no wonder the name is known the world over. Who wouldn’t love a Valentino of their own? As you can see here the train is the main feature again and it draws us from head to toe, which is what you want with an evening gown. The red goes well with her skin tone and it can be pulled off with little tan and you can pick up the colour again with your lipstick. We’d suggest when going red, don’t just do it for the sake of wearing a red dress or coral dress because you love the colour because it can go horribly wrong when worn wrong. So we say ‘Well done Anne’ you got the dresses right but maybe next time stick to that and leave the presenting to someone else.
